Florida medical college funded by Kiran & Pallavi Patel to open in August 2019
Florida, January 2019. Classes are expected to start in August at Nova Southeastern University’s new Tampa Bay Regional Campus. This campus was funded by $150 million pledged by the foundation set up by Tampa Bay cardiologist and entrepreneur Dr. Kiran C. Patel and his wife, pediatrician and philanthropist Dr. Pallavi Patel.
The Patel’s gift is the second largest philanthropic donation by an Indian American, after the several hundred million dollars gifted to MIT by the late Amar Bose, in the form of stock in Bose Corp. The company makes high-end speakers used in luxury cars as well as the Vatican church. .
The Patels have pledged two gifts and financial commitments to NSU totaling about $225 million ($75 million in gifts and $150 million in real estate and facility investment.) It will lead to the renaming of three NSU colleges.
In 2018, the Patels pledged $25 million to the university, which will rename the NSU College of Allopathic Medicine to the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine..
